Following last week\u2019s introduction<\/a>, let\u2019s explore a grander tale of our two rednecks meeting some gals in the wilderness.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Me and Tim Went Huntin\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Me and Tim went huntin\u2019 bold,
\nOut where nights get dark and cold.
\nPacked some jerky, gear and brew,
\nSet our sights on Timbuktu.<\/p>\n

Not the town, but that ol\u2019 bluff,
\nWhere critters roam and trails get rough.
\nWe hiked all day through brush and pine,
\nTill we saw that campfire give us shine.<\/p>\n

There they sat, three gals just smilin\u2019,
\nSippin\u2019 whiskey, sweet and stylin\u2019.
\nOne said, \u201cBoys, y\u2019all look beat!
\nCome warm up and take a seat!\u201d<\/p>\n

Well, Tim near tripped on his own boot,
\nTryin\u2019 to play it calm and cute.
\nI just tipped my camo hat,
\nSaid, \u201cLadies, we can drink to that.\u201d<\/p>\n

They poured the shine, we passed the jar,
\nThey laughed like banjos at a bar.
\nThey sang and danced, their boots went thump,
\nThat pop-up tent began to jump.<\/p>\n

One gal, Mae, had eyes like fire,
\nAnd lips that\u2019d spark a man\u2019s desire.
\nTim and Sue snuck off to chat,
\nWhile Belle said, \u201cBoy, let\u2019s chew the fat.\u201d<\/p>\n

We joked and flirted under stars,
\nThat campsite felt like Venus and Mars.
\nAnd when the moon was hangin\u2019 low,
\nWell… what happened next, we\u2019ll never know.<\/p>\n

\u2018Cause come sunrise, they were gone,
\nLeft a note on Tim\u2019s long johns:
\n\u201cThanks for the laughs and all the fun,
\nNext time, bring three fellas, hun!\u201d<\/p>\n

So now we joke \u2018round every brew,
\n\u2018Bout that wild night on Timbuktu.
\nIt ain\u2019t a place upon no map,
\nIt\u2019s where rednecks fall in love… and nap.<\/p>\n

We can do this in the timeless style of Tom Lehrer, as well, to be sung at a slightly manic piano tempo, with Lehrer\u2019s trademark satirical flair:<\/p>\n

The Timbuktu Tango<\/strong><\/p>\n

(A jaunty piano intro, reminiscent of \u201cPoisoning Pigeons in the Park\u201d)<\/p>\n

Me and Tim, we\u2019re huntin\u2019 chaps,
\nSet out where wilderness overlaps.
\nWith jerky, brew and camo bright,
\nWe sought adventure in the fading light.
\nNot Timbuktu, that distant shore,
\nBut Timbuktu Bluff, and nothin\u2019 more.
\nWhere critters creep and trails confound,
\nAnd manly fortitude is always found.<\/p>\n

(A slightly faster tempo, with a hint of a tango rhythm)<\/p>\n

We trekked all day through tangled wood,
\nWhen lo! A campfire, understood
\nTo signify a welcome warm,
\nAnd shelter from the comin\u2019 storm.
\nThree ladies there, with smiles so wide,
\nAnd whiskey, where no good can hide.
\n\u201cCome, boys,\u201d one purred, with eyes so keen,
\n\u201cAnd join our bacchanalian scene!\u201d<\/p>\n

(A brief musical interlude, with a slightly off-key accordion)<\/p>\n

Poor Tim, he stammered, turned quite red,
\nAnd nearly tripped, the clumsy head.
\nI merely tipped my hat so green,
\n\u201cA drink, fair maids, would be a bless-ed scene.\u201d
\nThey poured the stuff, a fiery brew,
\nAnd laughed like hyenas, it is true.
\nThey danced and sang, a wild display,
\nThe tent, it shook in disarray.<\/p>\n

(The music becomes slightly more suggestive, a hint of a tango)<\/p>\n

One, Mae, with eyes like burnin\u2019 coal,
\nCould set a man\u2019s entire heart a-roll.
\nAnd Tim and Sue, they wandered off,
\nWhile Belle and I engaged in witty scoff.
\nWe joked and flirted, \u2018neath the stars,
\nThat campsite felt like Venus and Mars.
\nAnd when the moon hung in the trees…
\nWell, what transpired, if you please,<\/p>\n

(A dramatic pause, followed by a return to the jaunty piano)<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll never tell, for come the dawn,
\nThose sirens three, they all were gone.
\nA note they left, upon Tim\u2019s drawers,
\n\u201cNext time, bring one more, without no flaws!\u201d
\nSo now we jest, with every beer,
\nOf that strange night, so wild and queer.
\nThat Timbuktu, it\u2019s not on maps,
\nIt’s where rednecks fall in love… and perhaps take naps.<\/p>\n

Of course, Tom Lehrer, while hip<\/u> in his time, is a bit dated, so let\u2019s fast forward to the rad<\/u> days of Weird Al Yankovic and see what he could do with this piece.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Timbuktu (Where the Rednecks Rendezvous)<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Starts with a goofy banjo riff and a sudden \u201cYee-haw!\u201d)<\/p>\n

Me and Tim, we went huntin\u2019 BOLD!
\nWhere the nighttime air gets frightenin\u2019 COLD!
\nPacked some jerky (mostly stale!),
\nAnd some gear we got on clearance sale!
\nPlus a six-pack of that \u201cMountain Dew\u201d brew,
\nSet our GPS for… well, Timbuktu!
\nNot the fancy town with the sand so fine,
\nBut that ol\u2019 bluff, where the squirrels whine!<\/p>\n

(Tempo picks up, a slightly polka-ish feel)<\/p>\n

We hiked all day through the scratchy brush,
\nSteppin\u2019 on things that made a squishy \u201cshush!\u201d
\nPast the grumpy pines, all pokey and tall,
\n\u2018Til we saw that campfire, answerin\u2019 our call!
\nAnd who was there? Three gals just a-SMILIN\u2019!
\nLookin\u2019 like they\u2019d just won a pie-eatin\u2019 trial-in\u2019!
\nSippin\u2019 on somethin\u2019 that smelled like old socks,
\nOne said, \u201cHey boys, yer lookin\u2019 like worn-out clocks!\u201d<\/p>\n

(A quick, slightly off-key harmonica solo)<\/p>\n

\u201cY\u2019all look beat! Come \u2018ere an\u2019 warm up your… feet!\u201d
\n(We checked our feet, they weren\u2019t lookin\u2019 too sweet!)
\nWell, poor ol\u2019 Tim near tripped on his own BIG boot!
\nTryin\u2019 to act all suave and lookin\u2019 darn cute!
\nI just tipped my camo hat, all greasy and worn,
\nSaid, \u201cLadies, that offer? It\u2019s practically BORN
\nFor fellas like us!\u201d (Who hadn\u2019t showered in days!)
\n\u201cWe can drink to that!\u201d in a bewildered daze!<\/p>\n

(The music gets a bit faster, more like a polka gone slightly wrong)<\/p>\n

They poured the shine, we passed the JAR!
\nThey laughed like banjos that were missin\u2019 a BAR!
\nThey sang and danced, their boots went THUMP!
\nThat pop-up tent looked like it was gonna JUMP!
\nOne gal, Mae, had eyes like a raccoon in a bin!
\nAnd lips that\u2019d spark a man\u2019s desire… for a nap within!<\/p>\n

(A short, spoken interlude with a dramatic whisper)<\/p>\n

Tim and Sue? They snuck off to… \u201cchat\u201d!
\n(Probably talkin\u2019 \u2018bout the best place to swat!)
\nWhile Belle said, \u201cBoy, let\u2019s chew the FAT!\u201d
\n(Mostly \u2018bout the price of a brand-new welcome mat!)
\nWe joked and flirted \u2018neath the twinklin\u2019 STARS!
\nThat campsite felt like… Venus and MARS!
\n(Or maybe just a field with a lot of old cars!)<\/p>\n

(The tempo slows down, a dramatic, questioning tone)<\/p>\n

And when the moon was hangin\u2019 LOW…
\nWell… what happened next? We\u2019ll NEVER KNOW!
\n(\u2018Cause we both fell asleep from the fumes, probably!)
\n\u2018Cause come sunrise, they were gone, you see!
\nLeft a note on Tim\u2019s long johns, smelled like old debris.<\/p>\n

(Sung in a high, squeaky voice)<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks for the laughs and all the FUN!
\nNext time, bring a third fella, HUN!\u201d<\/p>\n

(Returns to the slightly off-key polka)<\/p>\n

So now we joke \u2018round every BREW!
\n\u2018Bout that wild night on… TIMBUKTU!
\nIt ain\u2019t a place upon no MAP!
\nIt\u2019s where rednecks fall in love… and take a long NAP!<\/p>\n
